App Review: ShowMe Interactive Whiteboard

Turn your iPad into your personal interactive whiteboard! ShowMe allows you to record voice-over whiteboard tutorials and share them online. It’s an amazingly simple app that anyone can use, no matter how young or old.

This being my very first interactive whiteboard I wasn’t very sure how to go about choosing an app or how to even make one. But this app turns out to actually be a great tool for beginners in this field of technology. Some of the other apps I tried had either very long, complicated tutorials that didn’t make much sense or very brief ones that didn’t explain anything and left me more confused, but his app starts off with a simple but effective tutorial that you can go back to close out of anytime if you have questions for using the app. It also only took one video to realize how great this would actually be for educators, especially teachers who are flipping their classroom. Not just this app, but interactive whiteboards in general are amazing resources that you can use in almost every subject to teach any student.

A definite issue with this specific app though is that it is simply a beginning app and is extremely limited, in the fact that you cannot download the video you make onto your iPad but instead can only see it on the ShowMe website. This caused me to have to simply make a recording using my iPad camera pointed at my computer screen as the video played. The option around this issue is buying the premium version for $5.99, which is most definitely a great investment if you are planning on using this app long-term.

Other than that issue I definitely found this app enjoyable and easy to use and it has my stamp of approval on it. Interactive Whiteboards are an awesome idea and I would love to be able to use it in my future classroom when I start teaching. I encourage all teachers to try using it for themselves to help impliment more technology into their teaching.
